Cooling tower noise generation factors and treatment methods

Cooling towers are generally arranged in residential areas and office perimeters. The continuous noise output will affect the user's quality of life and physical and mental health. This makes the noise control of cooling towers more and more important. Today we will analyze the noise generation mechanism and how to design a reasonable solution.

The cooling tower is a heat exchange device, and its noise sources mainly have three aspects:

1. Noise generated by the cooling tower fan

Mainly divided into mechanical noise of the cooling fan and aerodynamic noise of the fan inlet and exhaust, the characteristics are low frequency. The fan installed in the upper part of the cooling tower is mainly pulled out in reverse to achieve the purpose of cooling. The high-speed rotation of the fan generates aerodynamic noise. A plurality of blades in the rotation act on the airflow, and then the air pressure and the moving speed are pulsating, and the imbalance of the rotating components causes the structure to vibrate, thereby generating vibration noise.

2. the noise generated by the cooling tower falling water

The circulating water of the cooling tower flows down from the upper spray pipe, and the impact noise is generated by the free fall, which is proportional to the square of the falling water velocity, and inversely proportional to the fourth power of the impinging water surface.

3. Noise of cooling tower power components

The noise of the cooling tower tower machinery is mainly caused by the vibration of the machine components. Parts of the machine are elastically deformed during operation and then vibrate. When a mechanical part with elasticity transmits vibration energy to the surface of the radiation, it propagates through the air to form mechanical noise.

Technology used for cooling tower noise reduction:

1.the treatment of this method of noise reduction

This is a scientific noise reduction technology. It is an active noise reduction technique. Since the noise source of the cooling tower is generated from the power components, the company has increased the number of installed fans from the original four to eight with the technical method of reducing the diameter. And change its length, through the high-efficiency low-speed reducer with variable frequency motor, using the magnetic levitation power platform, the principle is to reduce the noise by reducing the speed, of course, the premise is not to change the air volume, reduce the efficiency to reduce noise.

2.noise reduction shielding technology:

The main noise source of the cooling tower is the top exhaust noise, and the noise spectrum is mainly low and medium frequency. We can achieve the purpose of noise reduction by installing a resistive muffler. The main factors affecting the muffler of the resistive muffler are:

The thickness of the silencer insert is generally filled with sound absorbing material as porous sound absorbing material, including Aier ultra-clean sound-absorbing board, super-new glass wool, etc.;

The cross-sectional area of the airflow passage and the width of the airflow passage are reduced, which increases the noise reduction of the muffler length;

3. Since the air outlet muffler has been installed at the air outlet of the cooling tower to effectively reduce the air outlet noise, in order to reduce the water spray and mechanical noise, a sound insulation barrier is designed around the cooling tower.

The sound barrier suction and sound insulation module uses sound insulation board + damping layer + porous sound absorbing material + perforated guard board, the actual insertion loss of the sound barrier is up to 15dB (A)

At the same time, in order to ensure normal ventilation and heat dissipation, the wind noise louver is installed on the top of the sound barrier.
